What are you doing? And why?
This magazine wants to research and inform about ways to integrate ecological theory and environmental thoughts into existing or future constitutions.
Humankind reached what we think is it’s first major goal with the Human Rights charta. Simultaneously, these ideas were integrated in many democratic constitutions around the world. What is needed now (besides enforcing these rights and constitutions) is the second big step: a Nature Rights charta and its integration into a new form of constitution.
This constitution, a framework containing both Human and Nature Rights, is what we call an Ecological Constitution. This magazine tries to look for hints in existing and fictional constitutional texts, and inform about progress made on this matter.
Who are you?
Right now, Ecological Constitutions is still run and written by Christoph alone. Yet, as this is an open research magazine, help is very welcome! Have some interesting ideas? Want to write an article for EcoCon?
Just write an email to cr@ecocon.org!

Christoph Rupprecht (Founder)
Christoph’s found his interest in ecology and its connection to politics during his first year abroad in Japan. He wrote his master thesis on midorizukuri(or 緑づくり), a Japanese grassroots approach to urban environmental planning. Other sources of inspiration, particularly about constitutions, have been renaissance utopias and modern science-fiction writings. To focus his studies on the matter, he founded the Ecological Constitutions Magazine in Dezember 2008. He is preparing for a planned PhD on urban green design (for more about this, check his weblog Treepolis). His free time belongs to photography, while supporting himself working as a freelance translator and language teacher for Japanese, English and German.
